Outsource to middle America

Posted by matt on March 14 2008

Jason Calacanis of Mahalo.com wrote a good article on 18 tips on saving money running a startup. Here at the Littlelines headqarters we certainly follow a few of them - Macs, second monitors, Google mail, expensive chairs. Number eighteen is particularly interesting to us since we are located in the heart of middle America.

Outsource to middle America: There are tons of brilliant people living between San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York who don't live in a $4,000 one bedroom apartment and pay $8 to dry clean a shirt--hire them!

We are happy to oblige! Thanks Jason for recognizing the sometimes overlooked talent located only a few hours away.

What a Start!

We've been really busy here at the LittleLines headquarters. Since we started the company in July, we've been working non-stop with clients from New York to Victoria Canada. I thought it would be fun to list some of the tools we use daily to keep our projects running smoothly.

MacBook Pros - Josh and I both use MacBooks Pros to do our work. Great operating system, powerful Intel processors, long battery life, and very portable. Need I say more?

Basecamp - Essential project management tool for working remotely. We manage all our projects with basecamp. It's simple, easy, and cheap.

Freshbooks - Painless billing and more. Great tool for tracking time, creating estimates, and managing client invoices.

Google Apps - All of our email, appointments, and documents are managed by Google.

LinkedIn - Keeping in touch with our friends. We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction and we use LinkedIn to help us manage our business relationships.

SliceHost - We host our websites with SliceHost on a couple Ubuntu Linux virtual private servers.

TextMate - I do all my development work using TextMate.

Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator - Josh does most if not all is magic with these two tools.
